Growing up, my grandmother would always say, "stop and think" or "think, think, think"., (Frankie, 1945 - 2001). She emphasized that you should listen first, then think about the process before responding or acting. Sometimes, we are too fast to act or react in the moment without thinking, planning, which can cause unexpected outcomes.
